Day 68

Will spent some time chillin' on the Arctic/Antarctic friends blanket today.

Day 67

Will was still a little fussy today, but better in the afternoon. After we checked out of our cabin we took a little drive around the lake. First we attempted to do a little car tour into a historical gold rush area, but the car started smoking and the road was not so much "dirt" as it was "huge piles of super jagged rocks every five feet." So we went on a little hike instead. Lorne likes hikes.

Will likes his little carrier.

There were a lot of rocks on the hike.

After the hike, we went to the Big Bear Brewery for lunch. We got a few little beers to sample and shared some nachos. If you ever find yourself at Big Bear Lake and think, "Hey, maybe I'd like to get the nachos from Big Bear Brewery," don't do it. Don't even think about it. They were not good. At all. How do you screw up nachos? I don't know, but they did. They were SO BAD. Anyway. Here are some cute pictures from lunch.

When we got home, Will had a bath. The cabin had no bathtub, the water smelled kind of sulphury and gross, and Will wasn't having the best trip, so we didn't force him to bathe while we were there. He smelled a little funny when we got home though, so he had a bath before bed. He actually enjoyed it for a little bit.

My hand...it's sort of delicious.

I wonder if I can eat the whole thing...

Day 66

Will had a rough day today. He usually takes his morning and afternoon naps in his swing, and we had no swing with us in the cabin. Mom played the human swing for awhile, then when Dad got back from the retreat he did the same. Poor Will. However, when he was feeling okay, his smiles were bigger and his coos were happier than before. It totally made up for the fussing. We were unable to catch a smile on camera (again), but this is a cute picture.

Day 65

Lorne had an MSTP retreat up at Big Bear Lake this weekend. We decided to make a family trip of it and rented a little cabin thing. Here are Lorney and Will after the long drive up from San Diego.

Day 64

Will was pretty drowsy today. It's common for babies to be lethargic and lose some of their appetite the day after vaccinations, and Will was no exception. He took a lot of naps today, in his swing, in Grandma Diane's lap, in his mom's lap, in the car, on his dad, on Lisa, etc. He was pretty awake when we first got up this morning though. After tummy time we read some books. Will likes books. This is the other Eric Carle book we picked up a few days ago, Do You Want to Be My Friend?

We're both really happy that he seems to like looking at books so far. We're big book nerds.

Also: look at the cute overalls!

We picked them up (and the red shirt) at the OshKosh outlet while we were in Palm Springs, thinking that if we got them in size 6 months he'd have some time to grow into them and wear them for awhile. Yeah. They already fit perfectly now, and there's not much more room to let them out on the straps. Grandma Diane picked out some overalls in the next size up that he'll probably start wearing in no time.

Day 63 - Happy Two Month Birthday!

Today Will is two months old! We celebrated by taking him to the doctor to get his two month check-up. If you happened to have any worries about Will gaining weight, you can probably stop. He's 14 lbs, 7 oz, and almost 25 inches. 95th percentile for height and weight.

Before the appointment, Alison gave him a faux-hawk so they would match. I admit, I was a little wary of the faux-hawk, but it's pretty adorable.

After the appointment he seemed to be in a pretty good mood. He had three shots, but only fussed a tiny bit for the second and third ones, then was fine. So we decided to try him out in his bumbo seat, since his head control has been pretty good.

After an initial five to ten second freak out (where he probably was thinking "OH MY GOD HOW AM I SITTING UP WITHOUT SOMEONE HOLDING ME?!!?!?!?!"), he seemed to enjoy it.

Later on in the day he got pretty fussy. The area where he got his tetanus shot was swollen and bruised (perhaps we should have expected this, since his mom's tetanus shots always swell a lot). After a bottle, some Tylenol, and a cold compress on his leg, he felt better, but very sleepy.

Day 62

Today was filled with excitement. First, we went out to lunch at one of our favorite restaurants, the Crest Cafe. Will wore a Grandma-related shirt because his Grandma Diane had to go to the doctor for some ear pain and he wanted her to feel better.

After lunch, Lorne went to the lab to get some work done, while Alison, Grandma Diane, Uncle Jon, Emma, and Laurel decided to go look at the San Diego Mission. Poor planning on Laurel's part left her without a stroller and without the strap-the-baby-to-you carrier thingy, so she just carried him around.

As she carried Will around, Laurel wondered why people decided to put the mission here, several miles inland, where it's freaking HOT. She also wonders how exactly people decided that Phoenix was a good place to live, but that's a post for another day, when Will eventually visits Phoenix.

After the mission, we went to a bookstore. Laurel picked up a few more Eric Carle books since Will really likes looking at the pictures in The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Here we are reading The Grouchy Ladybug. It was one of Laurel's favorite books as a kid. "Hey you, want to fight?"

Day 61

Will liked his bouncy seat for the first 2-3 weeks after he was born, then decided it was evil. Pure evil. He'd be soundly sleeping and his mom would want to lay him down somewhere she could see him while she did some cleaning or sewing, and the second he hit the bouncy seat he'd freak out and scream. He'd be wide awake and happy, and the second his mom strapped him in he'd wail. That bouncy seat had it in for him. But today, however, we angled the bouncy seat forward so Will isn't lying flat on it. SITTING UP IS SHOCKING!!!!

Sitting up is also fun.

Day 60

Will spent some time playing with his dad and Alison today while his mom took a nap.

In the background of the above picture you can see Jeero and one of the new Ugly Dolls, Wedgehead. Also, there's an old Fisher Price record player that used to be Laurel's. It still works. Will likes tinkly music. He also liked the banjo music he heard on Prairie Home Companion last week. Perhaps he heard that Grandpa Bill plays the banjo.

Day 59

Another day at the beach left Lorne (and Laurel and Alison and Jon) looking a little red. Will spent the entire time in his carseat with the sunshade down.

He did a lot of eating and napping at the beach though. Eating and napping can wear you out as much as swimming and getting a sunburn.

Day 58

Today Will met Alison.

They got along pretty well.

AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL IS SHOCKING!!!!

Well, it is to Alison. Will was indifferent.

Meeting Alison is tiring.

Day 57

Will enjoyed playing on the bed in the hotel room.

Also: THIS BALL IS SHOCKING!!!!!

Day 56

We decided to head up the Palm Springs Aerial Tram today, as it was 120 outside* in Palm Springs and it's usually about 40 degrees cooler at the top of the tram. We forgot to bring the stroller to Palm Springs, but we got a nifty little strap-the-baby-to-you carrier. Unfortunately, Will was too warm from the heat already, and he wanted nothing to do with it, so Lorne carried Will on the tram.

The top is about 8,000 feet high. When we got up to the top we basically just lounged around outside and enjoyed not melting.

Will spent some time being adorable.

Looking down on the Coachella Valley.

Looking in on the overpriced restaurant.

Dad has a flavor.

Uncle Jon carried Will back down to the tram.

*Laurel is not exaggerating this time.

Day 55

HOTEL ROOMS ARE SHOCKING!!!!
